Best 3000 Watt Solar Generator: 4 Picks Ranked for Home Backup & RVs
A 3000 watt solar generator (also sold as a 3000 watt solar power generator or power station) is the most practical size for serious home backup: enough continuous output to run a fridge, freezer, sump pump, furnace blower and a microwave together, and enough to cover a 30 amp RV. Every pick here is rated 3,000–4,999W continuous. Below we rank them, explain watts versus watt-hours, and flag which ones can (and can't) deliver 240V.

"3000 Watt" Means Output, Not Capacity
When people search for a 3000 watt solar generator they usually mean 3,000 watts of output, the way gas generators are sold. Some actually mean 3,000 watt-hours of storage. The two numbers answer different questions.
Watts (W) = how much at once
Continuous output is the total load the inverter can carry indefinitely; surge is the brief spike for motor startups. The picks here are rated 3,000W to 4,000W continuous.
Watt-hours (Wh) = how long
Capacity is the energy stored. Among these picks it ranges from 2,042 Wh to 4,096 Wh — so two "3000 watt" units can last very different lengths of time on the same load.

What Can a 3000 Watt Solar Generator Run?
At 3,000W you can run several 120V appliances together. The limit is 240V: most units in this class only output 120V from a single unit. Wattages below are typical ranges — your appliance's nameplate is the number that matters.
| Load | Voltage | Typical Draw | On a 3,000W-Class Unit? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Essential home circuits (fridge, furnace blower, lights, router) | 120V | ~500–1,000W average | Yes |
| 30 amp RV service | 120V | Up to 3,600W [1] | Most or all of it, depending on the unit's continuous rating |
| 50 amp RV service | 120/240V | Up to 12,000W [1] | Only a fraction of it |
| Well pump (1/2 HP) | 120V or 240V | ~750–1,500W running, 2,000–4,000W start [2] | 120V pump: usually. 240V pump: only with 240V output |
| Electric clothes dryer | 240V | ~1,800–5,000W [3] | Rarely — needs 240V and can exceed the whole budget |
| Central air conditioner | 240V | Varies by tonnage; high compressor startup | Generally a job for the 5,000W+ class |

How Long Does a 3000 Watt Solar Generator Last?
Runtime comes from capacity. These estimates use each unit's rated capacity, an assumed 85% inverter efficiency, and a steady average load. Real household loads cycle, so averages sit well below peak.
| Model | Capacity | 500W avg (essentials) | 1,000W avg | 2,500W (heavy load) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| EcoFlow Delta Pro 3 | 4,096 Wh | ~7.0 hrs | ~3.5 hrs | ~1.4 hrs |
| Anker SOLIX F3000 | 3,072 Wh | ~5.2 hrs | ~2.6 hrs | ~1.0 hrs |
| Jackery Explorer 2000 Plus | 2,042 Wh | ~3.5 hrs | ~1.7 hrs | ~0.7 hrs |
| Jackery HomePower 3600 Plus | 3,584 Wh | ~6.1 hrs | ~3.0 hrs | ~1.2 hrs |
Base-unit capacity only. Each of these accepts expansion batteries, and solar input during the day stretches runtime further.

120V vs 240V: The Big Divide in the 3,000W Class
US homes are wired for 120/240V split-phase. Fridges, sump pumps, furnace blowers and most outlets are 120V; dryers, ranges, water heaters, central AC and many well pumps are 240V. In this class, only the EcoFlow Delta Pro 3 outputs 120/240V from a single unit. The others are 120V-only on their own and reach 240V by linking two units with the manufacturer's kit or hub — which doubles the cost but also doubles capacity and output. If 240V from one box is a must, the 5000 watt class is built for it.
Surge vs continuous
Continuous watts are the sustained limit; surge watts cover the brief spike when a motor or compressor starts, which can be several times its running draw. Add the running watts of everything that will be on together, then check that the largest motor's starting draw fits under the surge rating.
Connecting to your home
For hardwired circuits, use a transfer switch or the manufacturer's home panel installed by a licensed electrician — never backfeed through an outlet. Our home backup guide covers which circuits to prioritize.
3000 Watt Solar Generator vs 3000 Watt Gas Generator
| Factor | 3,000W Solar / Battery | 3,000W Gas Portable |
|---|---|---|
| Indoor use | Yes — no exhaust | Never. Outdoors only, at least 20 ft from the house |
| Noise | Fan noise only | Engine noise |
| Fuel | Sun, wall outlet or a generator | Stored gasoline; needs refueling and stabilizer |
| Runtime limit | Battery capacity plus daily solar harvest | As long as you have fuel |
| Maintenance | Minimal; keep charged | Oil, spark plug, carburetor care |
| Upfront cost | Higher | Lower |
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission estimates about 85 people die in the US each year from carbon monoxide poisoning caused by gasoline portable generators, and warns that a garage — even with the door open — or open windows do not provide enough ventilation. See CPSC's Carbon Monoxide Information Center. A battery unit can sit in the kitchen or next to a CPAP; a gas unit cannot.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best 3000 watt solar generator in 2026?
Our highest-rated 3,000W-class solar generator is the EcoFlow Delta Pro 3 (95/100), with 4,000W continuous output and 4,096 Wh of capacity. It also outputs 120/240V from a single unit, which most units in this class cannot.
Is a 3000 watt solar generator the same as 3000 watt-hours?
No. Watts (W) measure how much power a generator delivers at once, which decides what it can run together. Watt-hours (Wh) measure stored energy, which decides how long it runs. The picks on this page output 3,000W to 4,000W continuous, but their capacity ranges from 2,042 Wh to 4,096 Wh.
What can a 3000 watt solar generator run?
A 3,000W unit can run most 120V household loads at the same time: a refrigerator, freezer, furnace blower, sump pump, lights, router and a microwave or coffee maker, as long as the combined running watts stay under its continuous rating and motor startups fit under its surge rating. 240V loads such as dryers and many well pumps need a unit with 240V output.
Can a 3000 watt solar generator run a well pump?
A 120V well pump, often yes, if its starting watts fit under the unit's surge rating. A 240V well pump needs 240V output: in this class only the EcoFlow Delta Pro 3 does that from a single unit, while the others need two linked units. Check the pump nameplate for voltage and starting amps.
Can a 3000 watt solar generator power an RV?
A 30 amp RV service is 120V and tops out at 3,600 watts, so a 3,000W-class unit covers most or all of it, typically through a TT-30 outlet or adapter. A 50 amp RV service is 120/240V and can supply up to 12,000 watts, so a 3,000W unit only covers part of that load.
How long will a 3000 watt solar power generator run a refrigerator?
It depends on capacity, not the watt rating. At an average 500W essentials load (fridge, lights, router, furnace blower cycling) and about 85% inverter efficiency, the picks here run roughly 3.5 to 7.0 hours. A fridge alone averages far less than 500W, so it runs much longer.
Is a 3000 watt solar generator better than a 3000 watt gas generator?
It depends on the outage. A battery generator is quiet, makes no exhaust, and can run indoors, while the CPSC warns that gas generators must run outdoors at least 20 feet from the house because of carbon monoxide. A gas generator keeps running as long as you have fuel, while a battery system is limited by stored energy and how much solar you collect.
Should I buy a 3000 watt or a 5000 watt solar generator?
Choose 3,000W if you are backing up 120V essentials or an RV with a 30 amp service. Step up to a 5,000W+ unit if you need to run 240V appliances such as a dryer, 240V well pump or central air from one unit, or several heavy loads at once. Our 5000 watt solar generator guide covers that class.
