Prime Big Deal Days vs Black Friday: When Should You Actually Buy?
There are only two windows each year when solar generator pricing genuinely moves: Amazon's October Prime Big Deal Days (October 6–7, 2026) and the Black Friday–Cyber Monday stretch in late November. Choosing between them is not a coin flip — the right answer depends on the capacity tier you are shopping and whether you need power before winter. Here is how we think about it.

The Short Answer, by Capacity Tier
300–1,000 Wh
Buy in October
Mid and small capacity units are the volume tier, and they are the ones brands discount most aggressively in a short event. November selection is broader but rarely cheaper on the same model.
2,000 Wh class
Either — decide on need
These units appear in both windows at broadly comparable pricing. If you actually need backup power this winter, October removes the risk of a late-November stockout.
3,000 Wh and up
Wait for Black Friday
Whole-home systems have historically seen their deepest promotions and widest selection in November. This is the one tier where waiting has usually paid.
The rest of this page explains the reasoning, the risks of waiting, and what to do if you miss both windows.
The Two Windows, Side by Side
| Prime Big Deal Days | Black Friday / Cyber Monday | |
|---|---|---|
| 2026 dates | October 6–7 | November 27, plus Cyber Monday and the surrounding weeks |
| Length | 48 hours | Roughly one to two weeks of active promotions |
| Eligibility | Prime members only | Everyone |
| Selection depth | Narrower — a subset of each brand's lineup | Broadest of the year, including bundles and older models |
| Historically strongest on | 1,000–2,100 Wh units | 3,000 Wh+ whole-home systems and panel bundles |
| Stockout risk | High on promoted models — 48 hours is short | High in the final days, especially on flagship units |
| Time to delivery before winter | Comfortable | Tight if you order late in the window |
The Argument for Not Waiting
Price is only half of the decision. The other half is what happens between October 7 and November 27:
Winter storm season starts before Black Friday
Outage risk rises as the season turns, well before late November. If your reason for buying is backup power rather than a project, waiting six weeks means six weeks without the equipment. See our winter storm power backup guide for the seasonal picture.
You can validate the price instead of guessing
We log Amazon prices daily for every model we cover. If an October promotional price is below the tracked baseline, it is a real reduction — not a list price reset. See the solar generator price tracker.
The tier you probably want is in the October sweet spot
Most first-time buyers end up in the 1,000–2,100 Wh range, which is exactly the tier that moves hardest in a short Prime event. The November advantage is concentrated at the top of the range, not here.
What We Would Buy in Each Window
Current Amazon prices shown — compare them against whatever appears during the event rather than against the crossed-out list price.
Buy in October
Jackery Explorer 1000 V2
1,070 Wh at 23 lb — our Best Overall 2026 winner and the most sensible first purchase in the category. Current price: $559.00
Buy in October
Anker SOLIX C1000 Gen 2
1,024 Wh with a ~49-minute recharge and 2,000W output. The fastest-charging unit in its class. Current price: $499.99
Worth watching in either window
Bluetti Elite 200 V2
2,074 Wh at 50-minute fast charging — the best value per watt-hour in the 2 kWh tier. Current price: $899.00
Wait for November
EcoFlow Delta Pro 3
4,096 Wh, 4,000W output, 240V split-phase. At this price tier the November window has historically produced the larger dollar reduction. Current price: $3,699.00
One caveat on waiting for whole-home systems
If you need a whole-home system this winter, the calculation changes. A November order placed late in the window can run into shipping delays at the exact moment you want the equipment installed. If that is your situation, October availability is worth more than a November discount. A split approach also works: buy a mid-capacity unit now for immediate coverage and revisit a larger system in the November window.
If You Miss Both Windows
Solar generator pricing does not stay elevated all year. Two lesser patterns are worth knowing about:
- •New-model launches. When a brand releases a successor, the outgoing generation is often cleared at a real discount. It is usually the previous model, not the current one, that produces the best price-per-watt-hour.
- •Spring outdoor season. Camping and RV demand peaks in late spring, and brands sometimes run May–June promotions ahead of it. It is a smaller window than October or November, but it exists.
- •Bundles over base units. If you are paying full price either way, a generator-plus-panel bundle is usually the better value than a discounted base unit plus a separately purchased panel.

Prime Big Deal Days vs Black Friday FAQ
Which is better for solar generators, Prime Big Deal Days or Black Friday?
It depends on capacity. For 1,000–2,100 Wh units, October pricing has historically been competitive with November and the selection is adequate. For 3,000 Wh+ whole-home systems, Black Friday has been the stronger window on both price and selection depth.
Are Prime Big Deal Days prices as good as Black Friday prices?
On mid-capacity units, historically yes — sometimes better, because a two-day event pushes brands to lead with their highest-volume model at an aggressive price. On larger systems, November has usually been deeper in dollar terms.
Do I need Amazon Prime for Prime Big Deal Days?
Yes, event pricing is limited to Prime members. Black Friday and Cyber Monday require no membership, so if you are not a Prime member and your target model is a large system, waiting costs you nothing on eligibility.
Will prices be lower on Cyber Monday than Black Friday?
Usually not on the same model. Cyber Monday sometimes adds new offers, but it has rarely undercut Black Friday pricing on an identical product. If your model is at a genuinely reduced price on Black Friday, that is generally the moment to buy.
How do I know whether a promotional price is real?
Compare against a price you recorded before the event, not the crossed-out list price on the listing. We log Amazon prices daily for every model we cover in the solar generator price tracker, so the pre-event baseline is on the record.
What if I need backup power before November?
Then October is the better choice regardless of a possible November discount, because waiting means going without coverage through the start of winter storm season. See our winter storm power backup guide for what that risk looks like month by month.
