For most people, the River 3 Plus. It doubles the River 3’s output and solar input, switches over faster as a desk UPS, and can take an extra battery later. The River 3 Max Plus is not a different station — it is a River 3 Plus bundled with a 572 Wh extra battery for 858 Wh total, which is the one to buy if you need a CPAP for about two nights. The base River 3 is the smallest and lightest, for phones, laptops and lights. One thing to know before you compare listings: the big wattage figure on River boxes is X-Boost, not continuous output.

Specs checked against EcoFlow's published figures plus independent retailer and review data. EcoFlow also sells a River 3 Max (River 3 Plus plus a smaller extra battery, 572 Wh total), which we do not track separately. The Max Plus weight is the sum of the two components' listed weights.
River boxes and listings lead with the X-Boost figure — 600W on the River 3, 1,200W on the River 3 Plus. X-Boost lets a heating appliance such as a kettle, hair dryer or small heater run on the station by lowering the voltage it receives, so it runs slower or cooler rather than tripping the inverter. It does not let the station start or run a motor, compressor or electronics above its continuous rating.
So plan on 300W (River 3) or 600W (River 3 Plus and Max Plus) of real output. That covers a CPAP, a laptop, a mini fridge, lights and a router — and rules out a full-size microwave, coffee maker or blender at full power. If those matter, step up to a 1 kWh class station; see the best 1000 watt solar generators.
Continuous-draw estimates with about 15% lost to conversion. A CPAP's draw depends heavily on whether the heated humidifier is on.
| Load | River 3 | River 3 Plus | River 3 Max Plus |
|---|---|---|---|
| Router and modem (~15W) | ~13.9 hrs | ~16.2 hrs | ~48.6 hrs |
| CPAP without humidifier (~40W) | ~5.2 hrs | ~6.1 hrs | ~18.2 hrs |
| Laptop (~60W) | ~3.5 hrs | ~4.1 hrs | ~12.2 hrs |
| Mini fridge (average while cycling) (~50W) | ~4.2 hrs | ~4.9 hrs | ~14.6 hrs |
| Desk setup: monitor, PC, router (~150W) | ~1.4 hrs | ~1.6 hrs | ~4.9 hrs |
For CPAP use without the humidifier, the Max Plus covers about two nights between charges; the River 3 and River 3 Plus cover about one night. See our CPAP runtime guide.
All three can sit between the wall and your equipment and take over when the power drops. The River 3 Plus advertises a switchover under 10 milliseconds, against under 20 ms for the River 3 — the faster figure is the one that keeps more desktop PCs and network storage from rebooting. Owners have reported that some sensitive loads still notice the switch, so test your own setup before relying on it. Our power station vs UPS guide explains when a dedicated UPS is still the better tool.

The River 3 Plus bundled with the 572 Wh Extra Battery 600 for 858 Wh total. Three times the capacity of a River 3 Plus alone, and the two pieces separate so you only carry the battery when you need it.
Good for phones, laptops, lights and a router. Not expandable, with half the River 3 Plus’s output. EcoFlow’s US store has started steering shoppers to the River 3 Plus, so check availability.

The River 3 Plus has 286 Wh against 245 Wh, twice the continuous output (600W vs 300W), twice the solar input (220W vs 110W), a faster advertised UPS switchover (under 10 ms vs under 20 ms), and it can take an extra battery. The River 3 is lighter at 7.8 lb against 10.4 lb.
It is a River 3 Plus bundled with EcoFlow's 572 Wh Extra Battery 600, for 858 Wh in total. Output and solar input are the same as the River 3 Plus; the extra battery triples the capacity, and the two pieces separate.
600W continuous. The 1,200W figure is X-Boost, which lets heating appliances like a kettle or hair dryer run at reduced voltage. It does not let the station run motors, compressors or electronics above 600W.
Yes. EcoFlow advertises a switchover under 10 ms, fast enough for most routers and many desktop PCs. Some owners report that very sensitive equipment still notices the switch, so test it with your own setup.
The River 3 Max Plus. At 858 Wh it runs a CPAP without the heated humidifier for about two nights. The River 3 and River 3 Plus manage about one night (5 to 6 hours) at a similar draw.
Not to the base River 3. The River 3 Plus accepts EcoFlow's extra batteries; with the 572 Wh Extra Battery 600 it becomes the 858 Wh River 3 Max Plus configuration.
