EcoFlow River 2 Pro Review: An Older River That Still Fills a Gap in the River 3 Lineup

Verdict

The EcoFlow River 2 Pro is a 2023-generation River that is still sold: 768Wh of LiFePO4, 800W continuous (1,600W X-Boost), four AC outlets and a 70-minute wall recharge at 17.2 lb. No River 3 model offers that much capacity and output in one box, so it still makes sense for car camping and short outages. It has three real weak spots: only 220W of solar input, no battery expansion and a fan that reviewers call loud. If you want lighter and quieter, the River 3 Plus is the modern pick. If you want more power for the money, look at the Delta 3 Classic.

River 2 Pro vs River 3 Plus vs River 3 Max Plus

EcoFlow’s River 3 series replaced the River 2 line, but not size for size. The River 3 Plus is a much smaller station, and the River 3 Max Plus reaches similar capacity by adding a separate battery while keeping the Plus’s 600W inverter. Capacity, output, solar, weight and ratings come from our product database; prices are live.

The River 2 Pro still makes sense if…

  • ✓ You want about 750Wh and 800W in one box with four AC outlets
  • ✓ You run loads between 600W and 800W, such as a small electric cooler plus lights, a projector rig or a 700W blender
  • ✓ You charge mainly from the wall or car and rarely use solar
  • ✓ Its price is clearly below the River 3 Max Plus when you shop

Buy a River 3 instead if…

  • ✓ Weight matters most: the River 3 Plus is 6.8 lb lighter
  • ✓ It will sit on a desk as a UPS (sub-10 ms vs under 30 ms)
  • ✓ You want a quieter unit in a tent or bedroom
  • ✓ You want to start small and add a battery later

Watch the model name: Amazon also carries a “River 2 Pro 700” listing rated at 716Wh. It is a different product listing; the figures on this page are for the 768Wh River 2 Pro. A Philippine retailer lists a 60-minute AC charge, but the US listing and most retailers say 70 minutes, which is the figure we use.

How Long Will the River 2 Pro Run? Real-World Runtimes

Estimates use 768Wh × 0.85, or about 653Wh usable, divided by the load. OutdoorGearLab reported about 81% usable capacity in its own measurement, close to this assumption, so treat these as planning figures, not guarantees.

Load Typical draw Est. runtime
Smartphone~12Wh per charge~54 full charges
Wi-Fi router + modem~20W~32.6 hrs
CPAP (no humidifier)~40W~16.3 hrs
12V or mini fridge (average)~50W~13.1 hrs
Efficient full-size fridge (average)~60W~10.9 hrs
Laptop~60W~10.9 hrs
50-inch TV~100W~6.5 hrs
Electric cooler + lights at camp~150W~4.4 hrs
Microwave / coffee maker~1,000W+Over the 800W limit; X-Boost runs heating loads only at reduced power

The pattern: a CPAP without humidifier gets about two eight-hour nights, a 12V fridge averaging 50W gets about 13 hours, so a weekend trip needs daily top-ups from the car or a panel, and a router stays online for more than a day. For CPAP sizing see can a solar generator run a CPAP; for camp setups see best solar generators for camping.

EcoFlow River 2 vs River 2 Max vs River 2 Pro

EcoFlow launched the River 2 family in three sizes in 2023, all with LiFePO4 cells (reported at launch by Notebookcheck and Mighty Gadget). We rate only the Pro, so the other two are listed for context.

Model Capacity Continuous AC Best for
River 2256 Wh300WPhones, laptops, lights. Today the River 3 covers this tier.
River 2 Max512 Wh500WAbout one night of CPAP, or phones, lights and a laptop for a weekend
River 2 Pro768 Wh800WThe most capacity and output in the family, with four AC outlets

Sources disagree on the River 2 Max’s solar input and the smaller models’ weights, so we leave those out. The River 2 Max listing we checked had no live Amazon price on October 31; the link below shows the current status.

River 2 Pro vs Delta 3 Classic and Other Alternatives

The Delta 3 Classic is the River 2 Pro’s awkward neighbor: 1,024Wh and 1,800W, with 500W of solar input, for a price that has been close to the River 2 Pro’s. It runs a microwave or coffee maker, which the River 2 Pro cannot, and it charges faster from solar. The cost is 9.5 lb of extra weight. If it rides in a car or sits at home, the Classic is usually the better buy. If you carry it any distance, the River 2 Pro is easier. Ratings are our editorial scores; prices are live.

Who Should Buy the River 2 Pro, and Who Should Skip It

Buy it if you…

  • • Car camp, tailgate or van-trip with a 12V fridge, lights and devices
  • • Want about two nights of CPAP (no humidifier) from one charge
  • • Need four AC outlets and up to 800W in a box you can carry one-handed
  • • Want a giftable mid-size station with a big-brand app

Skip it if you…

  • • Want to recharge mostly from solar (220W max)
  • • Need a microwave, coffee maker or hair dryer at full power
  • • Want a desk UPS for a desktop PC (River 3 Plus switches faster)
  • • Sleep next to it while it charges: reviewers describe the fan as loud

Gift and deal timing: older River models have historically been among the more heavily discounted EcoFlow units around Prime Day and Black Friday, as newer models take the spotlight. That is a pattern, not a promise. Track it on our EcoFlow Black Friday tracker and the solar generator gift guide. If you want panels too, compare the bundle below with buying a panel separately.

EcoFlow River 2 Pro FAQ

Is the EcoFlow River 2 Pro still worth buying in 2026?

Yes, for the right buyer. It is an older model, but it still offers 768Wh of LiFePO4, 800W of continuous output, four AC outlets and a 70-minute wall recharge in one 17.2 lb box. No River 3 model combines that capacity and output in a single unit. Skip it if you want strong solar charging (it takes only 220W), a quiet fan or a true sub-10 ms UPS.

EcoFlow River 2 Pro vs River 3 Plus: which should I buy?

Buy the River 2 Pro if you need more energy and output in one box: 768Wh against 286Wh, and 800W against 600W. Buy the River 3 Plus if weight (10.4 lb vs 17.2 lb), a sub-10 ms UPS, a quieter fan or the option to add a battery matters more. Both take 220W of solar.

What replaced the EcoFlow River 2 Pro?

The River 3 series, but there is no exact one-box replacement. The River 3 Plus is much smaller (286Wh, 600W). The River 3 Max Plus matches the capacity (858Wh) by pairing a River 3 Plus with an extra battery, but continuous output stays at 600W. For more output than the River 2 Pro, step up to a 1kWh Delta such as the Delta 3 Classic.

What is the difference between the River 2, River 2 Max and River 2 Pro?

They are three sizes of the same 2023 generation. The River 2 is the smallest at 256Wh with 300W output, the River 2 Max has 512Wh and 500W, and the River 2 Pro has 768Wh and 800W. All three use LiFePO4 cells. The Pro is the only one with four AC outlets and the most capacity, so it suits short outages and car camping best.

Can the EcoFlow River 2 Pro run a refrigerator?

Often, but check the fridge first. An efficient full-size fridge averaging about 60W would run for roughly 11 hours on the River 2 Pro. The risk is the compressor start-up: the River 2 Pro is rated for 800W continuous and 1,600W surge, which covers many modern fridges but not every older one. A mini fridge or 12V fridge is an easy fit.

How long does the River 2 Pro take to charge?

About 70 minutes from 0 to 100% on a wall outlet, per EcoFlow's Amazon listing, using up to 940W of AC input. With the maximum 220W of solar, EcoFlow quotes about 3.5 hours in ideal sun. It can also charge from a 12V or 24V car socket at up to 100W.

Is the EcoFlow River 2 Pro expandable?

No. The River 2 Pro has no extra-battery port, so 768Wh is its ceiling. If you want to start small and add capacity, the River 3 Plus accepts EcoFlow extra batteries up to 858Wh in total.

Can the EcoFlow River 2 Pro be used as a UPS?

It has an EPS (emergency power supply) mode that switches to battery when wall power drops. Retailer listings quote the switchover at under 30 ms, which is slower than the River 3 Plus's advertised sub-10 ms UPS. That is fine for lights, a fridge or many routers, but some desktop PCs may reboot, so test your setup.
