Harbor Freight Solar Generator: What They Sell vs Better Options (2026)

Yes, Harbor Freight sells the pieces of a solar generator — four Predator lithium (LiFePO4) power stations from 294 Wh to 1,545 Wh, plus Predator foldable solar panels — but the power stations are in-store only, and its Thunderbolt solar kits are panel-and-controller kits with no battery at all. This guide lays out exactly what Harbor Freight lists, what a Thunderbolt kit can and can't do, the 2025 Predator recall, return rules, and the Amazon power stations worth comparing at each size.

What Harbor Freight Sells for Solar Power (October 2026)

We checked Harbor Freight's solar category and each product page in October 2026. Harbor Freight introduced the Predator power stations and foldable panels at SEMA in November 2024, saying the 350W would arrive that December and the 600W, 1200W and 2000W in early 2025, sold only at Harbor Freight (Harbor Freight newsroom). Prices below are Harbor Freight's own listed prices on the date we checked — they change, so confirm on the linked page.

Harbor Freight also lists smaller items such as a 10W trickle charger, a 7W kit and MC4/connection cable kits. Older item numbers you may see in forums — the amorphous Thunderbolt Magnum 100W kit (63585) and the earlier 100W monocrystalline panel (57325) — did not appear in the current solar category when we checked.

Thunderbolt Kit vs a Real Solar Generator

A Thunderbolt kit collects solar power; a solar generator stores it and turns it into wall-outlet power. The 100W kit (item 70735) ships with a panel, a 10A PWM charge controller, two 12V LED bulbs, cables and mounting brackets (Harbor Freight). That's a starting point for a DIY 12V system — not a plug-and-play generator. Here's what it doesn't include:

Component Thunderbolt 100W Kit Portable Power Station (“solar generator”)
BatteryNot included — buy a 12V battery separately (e.g. HF's 35 Ah sealed lead-acid, 420 Wh nominal)Built in (LiFePO4 on every model in this guide)

What 100 Watts Actually Charges

Harbor Freight says the 100W kit “produces up to 500 Wh per day in full sunlight” (Harbor Freight) — that's 100W × about five hours of full sun at rated output, a best case. SlashGear notes a PWM controller can cost roughly 30% of a panel's output compared with MPPT (SlashGear), so a more realistic sunny-day figure for the kit is around 350 Wh, and less on cloudy or short winter days. In practice that's:

  • About one full refill of a ~300 Wh station such as the Predator 350 (294 Wh) or EcoFlow River 3 Plus (286 Wh).
  • About a third of a 1 kWh-class station such as the Predator 1200 (1,060 Wh) or Jackery Explorer 1000 V2 (1,070 Wh) per sunny day.
  • Under a quarter of a Predator 2000 (1,545 Wh) — which accepts up to 800W of solar, so a single 100W panel leaves most of that input unused.

Harbor Freight itself cautions that “many devices, like small Portable Power Stations, can only accept 40 to 60 Watts input power” (quoted by SlashGear) — so check your station's solar input limit before counting on a panel's full rating. To size panels against your daily use, see our solar generator buying guide.

The 2025 Predator 2000 Recall

One Predator model has been recalled. On July 3, 2025, the CPSC announced recall 25-366 covering about 6,500 Predator 2000 Watt Power Stations (SKU 70084) sold at Harbor Freight stores nationwide from February through April 2025 for about $950. In Emergency Power Supply (EPS) mode, the wires in the AC outlet receptacles are reversed, posing a shock hazard. The remedy is a free replacement unit from your local Harbor Freight store (CPSC; NY DHSES). The CPSC notice doesn't name the 350, 600 or 1200 models. If you bought a 2000 in that window, check the SKU label and contact Harbor Freight before using EPS mode.

Harbor Freight Return Policy on Power Stations

  • 90-day window: Harbor Freight has a 90-day limited return policy, and for online orders the clock starts when you order, not when it arrives. In-store returns need the original receipt or proof of purchase (SlashGear).
  • Restocking fee: some products carry a 20% restocking fee (SlashGear), and the Predator 350 product page states that a 20% restocking fee applies (Harbor Freight). Items with a fee are marked “Subject to Restock Fee” on the tag and receipt; the fee may be waived for an unopened item, an upgrade within the same category, or a defective product returned under warranty (SlashGear, Aug 2026).
  • Warranty: Harbor Freight lists a 5-year warranty on the Predator power stations but 90 days on the Predator 100W panel (product pages linked above).

Harbor Freight Solar Deal Patterns

Harbor Freight has historically discounted its solar gear through coupons and Inside Track Club member pricing rather than one predictable sale. Examples we could document: the older Thunderbolt 100W kit (item 63585) at $149.99 in April and October 2024 and $154.99 in August 2024 (HF coupons); the Predator 100W panel at $114.99 in June 2025 (HF coupons); the Predator 350 at $169.99 in January 2025 (Slickdeals); and a $139.99 member price on the current 100W kit in October 2026. These are past deals, not promises. For the Amazon side of the season, see our Black Friday solar generator deals hub.

Better Options: Amazon Alternatives by Size

We don't rate Harbor Freight's Predator units, so treat these as size-for-size comparisons rather than a verdict on Predator. Each tier lists the Predator spec it's matched against; the alternatives are power stations we track and rate (ratings out of 100 from our scoring matrix). The practical differences to look at: you can have these shipped instead of buying in-store, several weigh less per Wh, and some take far more solar input.

Can You Use a Harbor Freight Panel with a Jackery or EcoFlow?

Often yes — if the voltage fits and you have the right connector. Two checks decide it:

  1. Voltage: the panel's open-circuit voltage (Voc) must stay below the station's maximum solar input voltage — and panels wired in series add their voltages. Harbor Freight lists 24.5V Voc for both the Predator 100W foldable panel and the Thunderbolt 100W kit panel (Predator 100W; Thunderbolt kit). Two of them in series is 49V — fine on a station that accepts up to 50V or 60V, but well over the 30V limit Harbor Freight lists for the Predator 350 and 600.
  2. Connector: the Predator 100W panel includes MC4 and 8 mm barrel adapters; Predator stations take an Anderson-style input; the Thunderbolt kit's cable ends in tinned leads for its charge controller. Most brand-name stations use their own input (Jackery DC8020, XT60 on many EcoFlow and Anker models), so you'll usually need an adapter cable.

One worked example: retailers list the Jackery Explorer 1000 v2's DC8020 inputs at 12–60V with a 400W cap (Mr. Solar; Arnold Clark), and reviewers note DC8020 is proprietary (EFTM). A Predator 100W panel's 24.5V sits inside that window, so it should be electrically within range with an MC4-to-DC8020 adapter — but we haven't tested the pairing, so confirm with Jackery first. For EcoFlow, sources we found disagreed on the River 3 Plus input range, so check EcoFlow's own spec sheet before connecting a third-party panel. SlashGear also reports that Harbor Freight's Predator panels work with other brands' power stations (SlashGear).

When Harbor Freight Makes Sense vs When to Shop Elsewhere

✓ Harbor Freight Can Work If

  • You want to see and pick up a power station in person today
  • A current coupon or member price beats comparable stations on a cost-per-Wh basis
  • You're building a DIY 12V system and want a cheap panel-plus-controller kit
  • You value Harbor Freight's listed 5-year warranty on Predator stations and a nearby store for service

✗ Look Elsewhere If

  • You want delivery — Predator stations were listed in-store only when we checked
  • You want a plug-and-play solar generator, not a kit that needs a battery and inverter
  • Weight matters (the Predator 1200 is 33.5 lb vs 23 lb for the Jackery Explorer 1000 V2)
  • You want high solar input or expandable capacity for home backup
  • You'd rather avoid a possible 20% restocking fee if you change your mind

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Harbor Freight sell solar generators?

Yes, if you count a battery power station plus a solar panel as a solar generator. As of October 2026, harborfreight.com lists four Predator lithium iron phosphate power stations (350W/294 Wh, 600W/512 Wh, 1200W/1,060 Wh and 2000W/1,545 Wh), all marked In-Store Only, plus Predator 100W and 200W foldable solar panels. Harbor Freight does not sell them as a single "solar generator" bundle under that name, so you buy the station and panel separately. Its Thunderbolt solar kits are a different thing: a panel and charge controller with no battery.

Is the Thunderbolt 100 watt solar panel kit a solar generator?

No. Harbor Freight lists the Thunderbolt Solar 100 Watt Monocrystalline Solar Panel Kit (item 70735) as a 100W panel, a 10 amp PWM charge controller, two 12V LED bulbs, cables and mounting brackets. There is no battery and no inverter, so on its own it cannot store power or run 120V AC devices. You would need to add a 12V battery and an inverter, or plug a panel into a power station instead.

Was the Harbor Freight Predator power station recalled?

Yes, one model. On July 3, 2025 the CPSC announced a recall (number 25-366) of about 6,500 Predator 2000 Watt Power Stations, SKU 70084, sold at Harbor Freight stores from February 2025 through April 2025 for about $950. In Emergency Power Supply mode the wires in the AC outlet receptacles are reversed, posing a shock hazard. Owners should stop using the recalled units and return them to a Harbor Freight store for a free replacement. The recall does not name the 350, 600 or 1200 models.

Can I use a Harbor Freight solar panel with a Jackery or EcoFlow power station?

Often, but check two things first: voltage and connector. Harbor Freight lists the Predator 100W foldable panel (item 70474) at 24.5V open-circuit with MC4 and 8 mm barrel adapters included. That voltage sits inside the 12 to 60V input window that retailers list for the Jackery Explorer 1000 v2, but the Jackery uses a DC8020 input, so you would need an MC4-to-DC8020 adapter that is not in the box. For any station, the panel open-circuit voltage (two panels in series add together) must stay under the station maximum input voltage, and the plug must match or be adapted. When in doubt, ask the power station maker.

What is Harbor Freight's return policy on power stations?

Harbor Freight has a 90-day limited return policy for most items, and you need the original receipt or proof of purchase. Some products carry a 20% restocking fee, and the Predator 350 Watt Power Station product page states that a 20% restocking fee applies. The fee can be waived in some cases, such as an unopened item, an upgrade to a higher-tier product in the same category, or a defective product returned under warranty. Check the price tag or receipt for Subject to Restock Fee before you buy. Harbor Freight lists a 5-year warranty on its Predator power stations.

How much can a 100 watt solar panel charge in a day?

Harbor Freight says its Thunderbolt 100W kit produces up to 500 Wh per day in full sunlight, which assumes about five hours of full sun at the full rated output. Real days are usually lower because of clouds, panel angle, heat and controller losses; SlashGear notes that a PWM controller like the one in the kit can cost roughly 30% of a panel output compared with MPPT. At about 350 Wh, that is roughly a third of a 1,070 Wh power station per sunny day, or enough to refill a 294 Wh Predator 350 about once.

Is Harbor Freight cheaper than Amazon for a solar generator?

It depends on the day. As of October 2026 harborfreight.com lists the Predator 1200 (1,060 Wh) at $749.99 and the Predator 2000 (1,545 Wh) at $999.99, and Harbor Freight has historically run member deals and coupons on its solar products. Amazon prices on Jackery, EcoFlow, Anker SOLIX and Bluetti stations change often, so compare the cost per watt-hour, the solar input limit, the weight and the warranty on the day you buy. Predator stations are in-store only, while Amazon ships to your door.
