EcoFlow Delta 3 Max Review: A Fast-Charging 2 kWh Station With Limits
The EcoFlow Delta 3 Max is a 2,048 Wh LiFePO4 power station with 2,400W of continuous output, 1,800W wall charging and a sub-10 ms UPS switchover — a solid home-backup box for fridges, CPAPs and home offices. Its limits are a single 500W solar input and no battery expansion. Do not confuse it with the Delta 3 Max Plus, a separate model with 3,000W output and extra-battery support. And on paper, the older Delta 2 Max beats it on solar and expansion.

Our Verdict: 85/100
The Delta 3 Max does the core job of a 2 kWh backup station well. It runs a full-size fridge for most of a day, starts most household motors under its 4,800W surge rating, refills from the wall in about an hour, and switches over fast enough to keep a router or desktop running when the grid drops. Reviewers describe it as close to silent; retailer listings quote 25 dB or less at a 600W load.
What holds the score back is what it leaves out. One 500W solar input is low for a 2,048 Wh battery, the four AC outlets are two fewer than the Delta 2 Max, and there is no way to add a battery later. In our scoring it lands at 85/100, the same as the older Delta 2 Max: the newer model wins on weight and UPS speed, the older one on solar and expandability. Ratings are synthesized from published specs, logged Amazon prices and public reviews — see how we score.
Buy it if you mostly charge from the wall and want a lighter, quieter 2 kWh station. Skip it if solar recharging or future expansion matters to you.
Delta 3 Max vs Delta 3 Max Plus: Two Different Stations
EcoFlow launched the Delta 3 Max and Delta 3 Max Plus together in late September, and the names make it easy to buy the wrong one. Both hold 2,048 Wh. Per ESS News' launch coverage, the base Max cannot add expansion batteries while the Max Plus can, and the Max Plus has one more outlet and a little more weight. The Solar Lab's review also confirms the base Max has no expansion port.

|---|---|---|
| Capacity | 2,048 Wh | 2,048 Wh |
| Continuous AC output | 2,400W | 3,000W |
| Surge | 4,800W | 6,000W |
| Solar input | 500W, one input | Two inputs, 1,000W total |
| Battery expansion | None | Yes, with EcoFlow extra batteries |
| Weight | ~45 lb (20.3 kg) | ~48.7 lb (22.1 kg) |
Max Plus figures from StorageReview's Delta 3 Max Plus review and ESS News. Sources disagree on the Max Plus's maximum expanded capacity, so we do not quote a figure. We do not rate or link the Max Plus here because it is not yet in our product database.
If your listing says 3,000W, 1,000W solar or "expandable," it is the Max Plus, not the model reviewed here. The Max Plus is the one The Solar Lab describes as the real successor to the Delta 2 Max.
Key Features
2,048 Wh and 2,400W of Output
The LiFePO4 pack and pure sine wave inverter cover a fridge, a sump pump, a microwave or a window AC unit, one heavy load at a time. Surge is rated at 4,800W for motor start-up, and EcoFlow's X-Boost mode lets resistive loads like a kettle or heater run at up to 3,400W on reduced voltage. X-Boost does not raise the real continuous limit, and The Solar Lab found surge handling "far from impressive," so check the start-up draw of compressors and pumps before you count on it.
Fast Wall Charging, Slow Solar
AC input is 1,800W, and EcoFlow's listings quote 0–80% in about 68 minutes (OffGridStores lists the same figure). Solar is the weak point: one input capped at 500W. Even with a full 500W array in good sun, a realistic 70–80% panel yield means roughly 5.1–5.9 hours of peak sun for a full recharge. That is most of a winter day. The Delta 2 Max and Delta 3 Plus both accept 1,000W.
Sub-10 ms UPS Switchover
Retailer spec sheets list an automatic switchover under 10 ms when the unit sits between the wall and your equipment. The Delta 2 Max is rated at 30 ms. That difference matters for desktops and network storage that reboot on a slow handoff. Our power station vs UPS guide covers when a dedicated UPS is still worth having.
Four AC Outlets, Nine Ports in Total
The base Max has four 120V AC outlets plus USB-C, USB-A and a 12V car socket (9 outputs in total, per Ecowizard's spec sheet and The Solar Lab). That is enough for a fridge, a CPAP, a router and a lamp, but a power strip will be needed for anything more. The Delta 2 Max has six AC outlets and 15 ports.
Quiet, Lighter Than the Delta 2 Max
At about 20.3 kg (~45 lb) it is roughly 5 lb lighter than the Delta 2 Max. Retailer listings quote 25 dB or less at 600W, and The Solar Lab described it as nearly silent even at full load. It is still a two-handed carry, not a camping tote.

Who Should Buy the EcoFlow Delta 3 Max?
Buy if you…
- ✓ Mostly recharge from the wall and want a fast top-up between outages
- ✓ Need about 2 kWh for a fridge, CPAP and home office during short outages
- ✓ Want a fast UPS switchover for a desktop or network gear
- ✓ Prefer a lighter, quieter unit than the Delta 2 Max
Skip if you…
- ✗ Plan to rely on solar — the Delta 2 Max takes twice the panels
- ✗ Might want more capacity later — it cannot be expanded
- ✗ Need 240V or whole-home circuits — look at the Delta Pro 3
- ✗ Need more than four AC outlets without a power strip
Bottom line: the Delta 3 Max is a good wall-charged 2 kWh backup station that leaves out the two features most often used to future-proof one. If its live price is clearly below the Delta 2 Max and you will not use much solar, it is the more modern pick. Otherwise the Delta 2 Max, or the expandable Delta 3 Max Plus, gives you more room to grow. EcoFlow Delta 3 Max FAQ
Is the EcoFlow Delta 3 Max expandable?
No. The base Delta 3 Max cannot connect to extra batteries, so it stays at 2,048 Wh. If you want to add capacity later, the Delta 3 Max Plus supports EcoFlow extra batteries, and the older Delta 2 Max expands to 6,144 Wh with two of its own extra batteries.
What is the difference between the Delta 3 Max and the Delta 3 Max Plus?
Both store 2,048 Wh, but the Max Plus is the bigger sibling: 3,000W continuous output instead of 2,400W, two solar inputs (StorageReview lists 1,000W total) instead of one 500W input, and support for extra batteries. The base Max is lighter and cheaper at launch, and it cannot be expanded.
Is the Delta 2 Max better than the Delta 3 Max?
On paper, in two important ways: the Delta 2 Max accepts 1,000W of solar (twice the Delta 3 Max) and expands to 6,144 Wh. It also has six AC outlets against four. The Delta 3 Max is lighter (45 lb vs 50 lb) and advertises a faster UPS switchover (under 10 ms vs 30 ms). Both carry the same 85/100 score in our scoring.
How long will the EcoFlow Delta 3 Max run a refrigerator?
About 12 hours for a modern full-size fridge averaging around 150W while it cycles. That assumes roughly 15% conversion loss from the 2,048 Wh battery. An older or larger fridge will draw more and run for less time.
How fast does the Delta 3 Max charge?
From a wall outlet it accepts up to 1,800W, and EcoFlow and its retailers quote 0-80% in about 68 minutes. Solar is the slow path: the single input tops out at 500W, so a full recharge needs roughly 5 to 6 hours of strong sun with a full 500W array.
Can the Delta 3 Max work as a UPS for a computer or CPAP?
Retailer listings advertise an automatic switchover under 10 ms when it is plugged into the wall, which is fast enough for most routers, desktops and CPAP machines. Test your own equipment before relying on it, and see our power station vs UPS guide for when a dedicated UPS is still the better tool.
