EcoFlow Delta 2 Max Review: Is the Older Delta Still the Better Buy?

The EcoFlow Delta 2 Max is a previous-generation 2,048 Wh LiFePO4 power station with 2,400W output, 1,000W of solar input across two ports and expansion to 6,144 Wh with two extra batteries. That last pair of specs is why it is still worth considering: the newer base Delta 3 Max takes only 500W of solar and cannot be expanded. The Delta 2 Max is heavier and switches over more slowly as a UPS, so whether it is the better buy comes down to price.

Our Verdict: 85/100

The Delta 2 Max is the rare older model that still beats its replacement on the specs that decide long-term value. Its two 500W solar ports take 1,000W in total, twice the base Delta 3 Max. It has six AC outlets instead of four. And it can grow from 2 kWh to 6 kWh with EcoFlow's extra batteries, which the Delta 3 Max cannot do at all.

It gives some of that back. At about 23 kg (~50 lb) it is roughly 5 lb heavier, its UPS switchover is rated at 30 ms against under 10 ms, and it belongs to an older generation. In our scoring it lands at 85/100, level with the Delta 3 Max. Ratings are synthesized from published specs, logged Amazon prices and public reviews — see how we score.

The value rule: if the Delta 2 Max costs the same as or less than the Delta 3 Max, buy the Delta 2 Max unless you specifically need the lighter weight or faster UPS. If it costs noticeably more, the newer model is the better deal for wall-charged backup.

Delta 2 Max vs Delta 3 Max: Spec by Spec

Same capacity, same continuous output, same surge rating. The differences are all in charging, ports, expansion and weight.

Bold marks the stronger spec. Delta 3 Max figures are covered in our Delta 3 Max review. Do not confuse the base Delta 3 Max with the Delta 3 Max Plus, a separate model with 3,000W output and battery expansion that The Solar Lab describes as the true Delta 2 Max successor.

Delta 2 Max Extra Battery: How Much Runtime Each One Adds

The Delta 2 Max has two expansion ports. EcoFlow's US product page lists up to two Delta 2 Max Smart Extra Batteries for a 6,144 Wh maximum, matching StorageReview and The Solar Lab. Extra batteries add runtime, not output: you are still limited to 2,400W at a time.

Load Base (2,048 Wh) +1 battery (4,096 Wh) +2 batteries (6,144 Wh)
CPAP without humidifier (~40W)~43.5 hrs~87.0 hrs~130.6 hrs
Full-size fridge (average while cycling) (~150W)~11.6 hrs~23.2 hrs~34.8 hrs
Home office: laptop, monitor, router (~120W)~14.5 hrs~29.0 hrs~43.5 hrs
Fridge + router + lights (~250W)~7.0 hrs~13.9 hrs~20.9 hrs
Window AC unit (running) (~500W)~3.5 hrs~7.0 hrs~10.4 hrs

Estimates use capacity × 0.85 ÷ load watts. StorageReview reported drawing about 1,800 Wh from the base unit at a 350W load, which lines up with the 85% assumption. A fully expanded Delta 2 Max covers a fridge, router and lights for about a day; for multi-day or 240V whole-home backup, look at the Delta Pro 3 instead.

Key Features

Dual 500W Solar Inputs

Each port accepts 11–60V at up to 15A and 500W, for 1,000W combined. With a full array in strong sun and typical 70–80% real-world panel yield, that is roughly 2.6–2.9 hours of peak sun to refill the base unit — half what the single-input Delta 3 Max needs. The Solar Lab reported about two hours with a 1,000W panel setup in good sun.

2,400W Output, Six AC Outlets

Six 120V AC outlets plus two 100W USB-C, four USB-A, a 12V car socket and two DC barrel ports — 15 outputs in all. Surge is rated at 4,800W and X-Boost at 3,400W for resistive loads, but The Solar Lab found it struggled with loads even slightly above 2,400W, so it is not a good match for central AC, large well pumps or other hard-starting motors.

1,800W Wall Charging

StorageReview lists 0–80% in about 1.1 hours from the wall, and about 43 minutes to 80% when AC and solar charge together. That is as fast as the Delta 3 Max on AC alone, and faster when you add solar.

LiFePO4, 3,000 Cycles, 5-Year Warranty

EcoFlow rates the LiFePO4 pack for 3,000+ cycles to 80% capacity and backs the station with a 5-year warranty, per its US product page and StorageReview. As an older model, check that a discounted unit is new and sold by EcoFlow or an authorized seller so the warranty applies.

Who Should Buy the EcoFlow Delta 2 Max?

Buy if you…

  • ✓ Want to recharge from solar with up to 1,000W of panels
  • ✓ May add capacity later, up to about 6 kWh
  • ✓ Need six AC outlets for fridge, freezer, router and more
  • ✓ Can find it at or below the price of a Delta 3 Max

Skip if you…

  • ✗ Need a sub-10 ms UPS for a desktop or NAS — consider the Delta 3 Max
  • ✗ Will carry it often — at ~50 lb it is a two-handed lift
  • ✗ Need 240V or whole-home circuits — see the Delta Pro 3
  • ✗ Only need 1 kWh — the Delta 3 Plus is lighter and also expandable

Bottom line: the Delta 2 Max is still a strong 2 kWh station, and for solar or expansion it beats the newer base Delta 3 Max outright. Let the live price decide. Still weighing the whole family? Our which EcoFlow Delta should I buy guide lines up every current Delta.

EcoFlow Delta 2 Max FAQ

Is the EcoFlow Delta 2 Max still worth buying in 2026?

Yes, if the price is right. It still accepts 1,000W of solar, has six AC outlets and expands to 6,144 Wh, which the newer base Delta 3 Max cannot match. The trade-offs are weight (50 lb) and a slower 30 ms UPS switchover. If it costs the same as or less than a Delta 3 Max, the Delta 2 Max is usually the better value.

How many extra batteries can the Delta 2 Max take?

Up to two Delta 2 Max Smart Extra Batteries of 2,048 Wh each, for 6,144 Wh in total, according to EcoFlow. With one extra battery you get 4,096 Wh. Output stays at 2,400W however many batteries you add; only runtime grows.

Delta 2 Max vs Delta 3 Max: which should I buy?

Pick the Delta 2 Max if you will charge from solar or may add batteries later: it takes twice the solar input and expands to 6,144 Wh, while the base Delta 3 Max cannot be expanded. Pick the Delta 3 Max if you mostly charge from the wall and value a lighter unit (45 lb vs 50 lb) and a faster UPS switchover (under 10 ms vs 30 ms). Both store 2,048 Wh and output 2,400W.

How long does the Delta 2 Max take to charge?

About 1.1 hours to 80% from a wall outlet at up to 1,800W, per StorageReview. Combining AC and solar, StorageReview lists 0-80% in about 43 minutes. On solar alone, a full 1,000W array in strong sun refills it in roughly 2.5 to 3 hours after real-world panel losses.

How long will the Delta 2 Max run a refrigerator?

About 12 hours for a full-size fridge averaging around 150W while it cycles, assuming about 15% conversion loss. With two extra batteries (6,144 Wh) that rises to roughly 35 hours.

Does the Delta 2 Max work as a UPS?

Yes. When it is plugged into the wall it switches loads to battery automatically, with a switchover time of about 30 ms. That is fine for fridges, lights and most routers, but some desktop PCs and network storage can reboot on a 30 ms gap. The Delta 3 Max advertises under 10 ms if that matters to you.
